Dr. Yuri Rzhanov of the UNH Center for Coastal and Ocean Mapping Presents, "To be (boustrophedonic) or not to be, that is the question..." ~ Hamlet, Prince of Denmark . This talk will be held at Chase Ocean Engineering Lab, Room 105, at 3pm on Friday, September 6th, 2019.
Typical survey with a narrow-swath sensor may suffer from sub-optimal coverage
(for example, spatially inhomogeneous coverage) or even have gaps not imaged at all.
In-air surveys can avoid these issues by using accurate positioning with GPS.
However, underwater surveys cannot use GPS, and without alternative positioning means, such as USBL, become unreliable. The simple device is proposed that significantly widens the swath and thus relaxes the constraints on positioning accuracy.
